The Brigham Young University School of Music invites you to participate in the Young Musicians’ SummerFestival June 14–20, 2015. SummerFestival is a six–day summer camp for young instrumentalists and vocalists ages 14–18 who want to improve their musical skills and talents.
Located on the Brigham Young University campus, SummerFestival offers instruction in more than 20 instruments, including voice. Musical styles include classical, big band, jazz, blues, etc. Instruction is by School of Music faculty and guest instructors. Instruction is offered at the intermediate and advanced levels*. Each participant may enroll for the camp in one instrument only.
SummerFestival begins on Sunday, June 15, at 7:00 p.m. with an evening fireside for all participants.
Auditions for placement will be held Monday morning, June 16. Auditions are used to assign students to sections. Participant placements are assigned by School of Music faculty and guest instructors.
Your schedule may include band, orchestra, symphony, ensembles, or jazz sectional rehearsals (depending on your instrument) along with literature, theory, master classes, and practice times Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Your evenings may include concerts, dances, barbecue, counselor–planned activities, and a silent film accompanied by live organ music.
SummerFestival concludes with participant concerts on Friday evening, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, in the Harris Fine Arts Center. Families and friends are invited to attend the Friday evening and Saturday concerts.
As a SummerFestival participant, you must meet the performance standards described for your instrument. Some ensemble repertoire will be at a high level. Enrollment is limited and is on a first–come, first–served basis. Many instrument sections fill quickly, so we encourage you to register early.
*Organ instruction is at the beginning level.
